OUR STORY

Masuliatna for Social Innovation, Design and Consultation was established in 2008, founded and strategically positioned as an NGO and a social enterprise, with both a for-profit branch and a non-profit segment. It works in partnership with a variety of private- and citizen-sector organizations in order to provide comprehensive training services to entities wishing to extend their knowledge and skills within the social entrepreneurship and development sector.

Masuliatna, which means “Our Responsibility” in Arabic, was founded by Iman Bibars, whose experience as a trainer, social entrepreneur, and women’s rights and empowerment advocate is extensive. The organization was born out of her conviction that it is the absolute responsibility of those working within the not-for-profit sector to transfer knowledge and understanding throughout the broader community in order to avoid “top-down” or donor-driven development and to provide appropriate, contextualized training to build the capacity of innovative individuals at the community level.

The idea for Masuliatna’s conception stemmed from Bibars’ belief that all citizens have a responsibility towards their countries and societies, but also towards the younger generation. Looking at the field of development and growing field of social entrepreneurship in the region, she felt that there were no regular and consistent vehicles for the transfer of know-how and expertise to the younger generation. She also felt that many of the younger start-ups and upcoming development practitioners that have emerged in recent years had not gone through the necessary apprenticeship period which grounds them conceptually and practically in the work of changing the world.

Thus, the team of Masuliatna is led by Bibars and comprises several young professionals who have knowledge and experience in social design, social system change strategies, social networks creation and dynamics management, teaching, training, mentoring, coaching, facilitation, intercultural exchange and social development across an array of fields starting with social entrepreneurship and focusing on youth empowerment and leadership, diversity and dialogue, income generation and job creation, child rights, environment and education among others.
